Kairakuen Garden (Mito)
Kairakuen Garden is a Japanese garden. It is ranked as one of Japan's three finest landscape gardens. The Mito Plum Festival is held annually from late February through March. The Night Plum Festival is held only on one night during the Mito Plum Festival where visitors enjoy its whimsical mood. Another feature of Kairakuen Garden is Kobuntei, displaying its distinctive Japanese architecture and traditional character.
Kodokan Hall (Mito)
The largest han school in Japan, founded by Tokugawa Nariaki in 1841. Tokugawa Yoshinobu received special education for gifted children from the age of 5 to 11. There are nearly 800 plum trees of 60 variations planted on the premises. Visitors enjoy the beauty and refreshing scent of plum blossoms from the end of February to the end of March.
During Genroku period, Tokugawa Mitsukuni (aka Mito Kōmon) cherished the garden in the temple and named it "Howaen". In the early summer, nearly 6000 hydrangea of 60 variations blossom, and "Mito Hydrangea Festival" takes place.
Mito Station (South Entrance)
Large commercial complex buildings "Mito South Tower" and "excel" are located by Mito Station's South Exit. Visitors enjoy shopping (electronics, clothing, accessories, foods, and souvenirs) and going to the movies. By the Mito Station's North Exit, there are "excel Station Building" and a department store "Mito Marui."
Hitachi Seaside Park (Hitachinaka)
Nemophila start blooming in early May. The breathtaking view was chosen by CNN (USA) as one of Japan's 31 most beautiful places. The blue hues of the nemophila, the ocean and sky create this magnificent landscape.
Ibaraki Prefectural Oarai Aquarium (Oarai)
Aqua World is one of Japan's the most prominent aquariums. Begin your adventure at "the Encounter Sea" a zone displaying a variety of fish and spectacular tanks. Before you end up at "the Oceanfront" to see penguins, you will go through several other zones featuring countless aquatic creatures. They also have exciting shows such as the popular dolphin show.
Waterfall of Fukuroda (Daigo)
A well-known water fall which displays both calmness and roughness. Said to be one of the most beautiful 3 waterfalls in Japan, City of Daigo as well as Ibaraki Prefecture take pride in their Waterfall of Fukuroda. Saigyō Hōshi, a famous poet during Heian period expressed the beauty of Waterfall of Fukuroda in his poem; "flowers blossom, crosswise brocade woven by mountain goddess, waterfall of Fukuroda."
